Central High School Tri-Hi-Y Club

Hi-Y stands for high-school YMCA. The first Hi-Y club was organized in Chapman, Kansas in 1889. Hi-Y clubs in Virginia date back to the 1920’s . Their purpose is to create, maintain, and extend, to the fullest capacity of one’s ability, high standards of a christian way of life through improvement, brotherhood, equality, and service. Their symbol is the YMCA triangle depicting the union of spirit, mind, and body. Annually, approximately 75 schools affiliate over 100 clubs with total membership close to 3,000 students. Club members are active in their schools and communities conducting service projects that meet local needs. The cost to join the club is $10.00 dollars. Sample club activities include community trash pickup, sponsoring teacher appreciation week, distributing voting reminders, Toys for Tots drive at Christmas, assisting the blood mobile, school clean-up, providing invocations at ball games and other special occasions, and raising and lowering the flag at school. We focus all our energies and funds on quality leadership and development activities for older high school teenagers.
